How to Link FnGuide Report Summaries to Original Research in a Verification Sheet

Identify FnGuide research summaries by publisher, author, and date, then link them to original reports. Track searches, document matches, page checks, and unverified items in a worksheet.

Comparing a FnGuide report summary with its original begins with finding exactly the same document. Collect the summary’s title, publisher, author, and publication date in a worksheet, then match them to the original cover. Linking each statement you want to check to its location in the original prevents repeated searches in your next investigation.

Transfer stock and date search results into a verification sheet

Company Guide’s official user guide describes the report summary screen as a place to find summaries of company reports and explains searches by period, stock name, and other fields. First choose the company and period to research, then select material to read from the results. In separate notes or a spreadsheet, record the company name, report title, publisher, author, publication date, and summary URL. This table is a research tool you create yourself; it does not imply the service offers a download feature with those fields. Mark information not visible on the screen as unverified in the relevant field and complete it from the original cover. Saving files by company name alone mixes multiple reports on the same company, so retain titles and publication dates as well.

Compare candidate covers and label document status

First examine any route to the original and access guidance available on the summary screen. If you cannot access the required original, search the issuing brokerage’s official research list using the title and date you collected. Lists showing titles, authors, and dates, such as Samsung Securities’ official research list, help identify documents. Disclosure scope varies by brokerage, so do not assume all originals are free. When opening a candidate file, match the publisher, author, company, and publication date, and record whether they agree. Similar titles with different dates may indicate follow-up reports. Distinguishing original verified, candidate found, and inaccessible prevents documents you could not read from being marked reviewed.

Link each summary statement to its original location in one row

Once you have confirmed the document match, create one row for each statement to compare. Put the summary’s key claim, original page or table title, verification result, and remaining questions side by side. If the PDF viewer’s page number differs from the printed page number, indicate which you used. Record the table’s account name and reference period rather than a number alone to avoid confusion with follow-up material. When finding a new version, link it in a separate row rather than deleting the existing one. Research is complete when the required claims have been verified in the original, not merely when a file has been obtained. These records let you find a document again through identifying information even if its link later changes.

Worked example

Hypothetical example: Suppose two summaries for the same company are both titled “Expanding the Distribution Network,” with the same author but different publication dates. Instead of deleting one as a duplicate, find an original candidate for each. If the covers show that the earlier report is an annual outlook and the later one a quarterly results review, retain separate rows. Link the sales-channel explanation in the second summary to its own original by recording the relevant subheading and page. This process confirms the document match before comparing content, rather than substituting a table from the first report.

What to check

  • Have you collected the company, title, publisher, author, and date in one row?
  • Does the candidate original’s cover match the summary’s identifying details?
  • Have you used different statuses for an original verified and an inaccessible document?
  • Have you linked each checked claim to a page or table title?
